Volunteer Fire Dept Station 9Bezanson Volunteer Fire Department Society was formed in 2003.  This society was put in place to become the fundraising body for the Bezanson Volunteer Fire Department, later called Bezanson Station #9 of the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service.  Our society is made up of community members and we meet the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm  at the Fire Hall’s upstairs training room.

The BVFD Society raised money for firefighting equipment in its’ early years, however the society has evolved to focus our efforts on projects that enhance the community, specifically those that benefit families.  BVFD Society has offered pancake breakfasts, movie nights for the school kids, as well as assisted the Bezanson School with sports equipment, field trips, and classroom technology such as Smart Boards.  Our team enjoys assisting with school events such as Play Day and recently donated a BBQ to the school for use during special luncheons.  We have annually sponsored children to attend burn survivor summer camps, donate annually towards the GPRC Bursary for Bezanson students, and assist with donations for families in need on a case by case basis. We have donated AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) to be placed in public locations within Bezanson area, and will be continuing to grow that project in the coming years.

One of our highlights every year is our Annual Firemen’s Ball, held each spring.  We feel honored to host a sell-out crowd and raise funds to put towards our community projects.  We welcome all community members to attend this dine and dance event!

Our largest project to date was the construction of the outdoor skating rink, located next to the Bezanson school. This multi-year project was completed in 3 phases, and we are proud to have hosted the Grand Opening in February 2016. Through fundraising, grants, sponsorship, gifts in kind, and the proceeds from several Firemen’s Ball events, we were able to construct this facility at a cost of $320,000 and are very grateful for the support from the community to make the rink construction a reality!

We welcome members of all ages, skills, and interests to join our group and help make a positive difference in our community. By becoming a society member, you are welcomed to attend our monthly meetings, help us decide where to spend money in the community, plan events and activities.
