10 Questions With Shyla Fells

Shyla Fells is a new member to our Ag Society and a long time member of our community. She is the new Administrative Assistant for the Bezanson Ag Society.  She handles all inquiries and bookings of the facilities as well as the promotion of upcoming events. Both of her boys went to qualifiers for the Canadian Finals, her oldest Tyson qualified and made it to Vegas but did not place. Since then they’ve been training to get back to Vegas. And here are a couple questions to get to know Shyla.

What brought you and your family to Bezanson?
My Husband was raised in Bezanson. When we talked about where we would like to live we knew we wanted a small community. And our first thoughts were Bezanson. And here we are.

How long have you lived in the community?

I have lived in the community for 11 years

What do you think your role is in the community?

I started working with the Ag society in January of this year my role there is an Admin Assistant I sit out at the front desk and greet people and help the admin out with many different tasks.

Are you involved in any organizations in the community? If so, which ones?
The past 5 years I have helped organize the craft sale. There are two craft shows. We have had the Christmas one every year. And our Spring one we have had it for two years now. At the craft shows we book tables for people to sell their crafts sewing and knitting. We also get a lot of Direct Sales Companies that put tables in. Each show we try and arrange a photographer to come in and take pictures. We offer Breakfast and Lunch at the shows they seem to bring in a big crowd! We usually sell approx. 30 tables with the old hall that was all that we could fit. But now we have the Bigger Gymnasium. We can fit a lot more tables.

What are your interests and hobbies?
I love Crafts, Wood working. Wood burning anything crafty. Camping. Baking.

What are some of your family’s favourite activities?

We love camping fishing quadding. Anything outdoors. Rodeo is a big part of our lives now. We all enjoy it very much. I can talk forever on the boys and rodeos, Tyson has only started riding in August of 2017. And Rylan started in 2018. They both worked hard and improved so much over the summer. Tyson placed 3rd in the season. Rylan came in 2nd place in the season. Giving the boys a chance to ride in Settler at the Canadian Finals, Rylan bucked off his 1st pony and Made the ride on his second, but he didn’t have enough points to make it to Vegas. Tyson made both his rides and earned the 3rd place spot to Vegas! We went down to Vegas and it was an amazing time. Tyson competed against the top 30 in the world in his division. His 1st ride he felt he was in trouble and double grabbed to get himself safely off the horse, and then his next pony he was bucked off. Since we have been back I have never seen a kids more determined to make it back to Vegas.

What got your boys into rodeo?

Tyson has always told me he’s going to bulls. We went to a rodeo with some friends and we were helping out. Our friend told us that Tyson could ride mini ponies. So we put him on. And then after Tyson’s first ride he was hooked.

What is your favourite part about this small community?

That everyone is so kind and welcoming. That the community comes together when needed.

What are some of your family’s favourite activities?

Where is your favourite restaurant?
Of course Lefty’s. But if I’m in Edmonton my favourite is Fife n’ Dekel or Simon Kings.

In the winter we are hanging out at home or at a friends place. In the Summer we are usually out at a rodeo.

I would love to see walking trails in the community. And more community events for families.
