County of Grande Prairie council on Monday agreed to contribute another $350,000 towards Bezanson’s proposed Regional Community Centre, bringing the county’s total contribution to about $2.2 million.

However, council declined another request for an additional $350,000 in interim financing, and some councillors had stern words for the Bezanson Agricultural society members. The ag society has contracted Edmonton-based Fillmore Construction to expand the Bezanson Memorial Hall – which the community has outgrown – by more than 16,000 square feet. Axiom Architecture, out of Red Deer, is the designer. The ag society hopes to start construction October 1 and finish by the fall of 2018, but their funding is still $1 million short of the estimated total of $4 million, up from the original estimate of $3.5 million.
